The ‘Reading Buddies’ groups are back in action at Forest School! Yesterday, the first session of many to come, took place in the library as classes came together for the first time since the Spring of 2020. Below are photos from Jackie Withington’s 4th-grade class with Tricia Carey’s kindergarten class. The older and younger classes are paired up to have the “buddies” take turns reading, which gives the older students a chance to practice their fluency skills as they support the early readers with decoding and comprehension. It is such a positive experience for all the students!

They had worked hard to fundraise to purchase a bench and plaque, while also planting a tree and holding a dedication ceremony. The green and white rocks are the colors of Sandy Hook Elementary School. The 6 rocks directly around the tree symbolize the 6 educators while the 20 rocks on the outer ring symbolize the 20 students.
