Last night, West Haven Public Schools held its annual Unsung Hero Award Dinner, bringing the community together to recognize individuals who make a difference each day. From teachers to front office staff to security guards and many more roles, our district is supported by people who care deeply about their work and the students they serve.
Those honored have gone above and beyond in their roles. Their efforts often take place behind the scenes, but they play an important part in keeping our schools running smoothly. While it is always a team effort, this night was set aside to recognize their contributions.

Boys Varsity Track made history, with Amir Daniley, Qumir Jackson, Josiah Richardson, and Justus Richardson blazing to a new school record of 42.93 seconds in the 4x100 Relay, breaking the previous record of 43.01 🔥💨🏃♂️🏆
Congrats to our 2026 West Haven High School Valedictorian Hudson Axelrod and Salutatorian Carly Morabito. Hudson will continue his education at Quinnipiac University, while Carly will continue her education at Clemson University. Yesterday, both were honored with a schoolwide parade in recognition of their achievements. Congratulations, Hudson and Carly 🎉👏🎓
Our Community Connections students spent the day at Bradley Point Beach, giving back by cleaning up trash and tidying the Veterans Memorial rocks. Thank you to the mayor’s office for providing gloves and vests to support their efforts 🌊🏖️🧤♻️

In celebration of National Poetry Month, West Haven Public Schools students were recognized last night at the Land Trust of West Haven “Poet-Tree” Celebration, with winners from Pagels, Seth Haley, Washington, Forest, Mackrille, Carrigan, Bailey, and WHHS. Poems will be displayed along the boardwalk near the bocce courts in the coming weeks. We are incredibly proud of our students 🌿📜

West Haven High School’s Career Center welcomed the Yale School of Medicine Dermatology Interest Group / Skin of Color Working Group for an engaging “Skin Health and Careers” session, where a dermatologist and medical students led an interactive experience introducing students to dermatology and related health careers. The program focused on building awareness of common skin conditions, improving health literacy, and encouraging students to explore opportunities in specialized medical fields early in their academic journey 🧑⚕️
West Haven High School came together on Friday during the school day for the annual Mr. Westie competition, where ten students who truly represent West Haven took the stage in the auditorium, answering questions from their peers, showcasing talents like drumming, piano, singing, acting, athletics, and filmmaking, while bringing plenty of energy and humor to the crowd. Congratulations to Daniel Davis on being crowned this year’s Mr. Westie 👑🎤🏫
On Friday morning, West Haven High School hosted its annual SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) mock car crash, providing students with a sobering reminder of the life-altering consequences that can result from the choice to drive after drinking. Thank you to the student participants, the West Haven Police and Fire Departments, and the dedicated staff who helped coordinate and put together this powerful and important event 🚓
WHHS Band was celebrated today with a breakfast for its 200+ members, recognizing their outstanding recent accomplishments, including a fourth consecutive nomination for Best High School Marching Band and being named WTNH Fan Favorite Band.
