The West Haven High School Athletic Department has recommended Tom Unger as the next head football coach at WHHS, pending approval by the Board of Education. The board is expected to vote on this recommendation at the next Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, January 20.
Neil Cavallaro, Superintendent of West Haven Public Schools, said, “Tom did a terrific job this year, especially given the circumstances under which he took over the football program. Tom is a top‑notch teacher, a great communicator, and earned the respect of his players, coaches, and the administrative team at the high school. He also understands the history and tradition of West Haven High School Football. I am proud to support his candidacy, and I know the program will be in good hands for years to come.”
Mike Anquillare, Co‑Athletic Director, said, “Tom Unger has done an outstanding job as an educator and coach at West Haven High School, including last year as interim head coach. We have full confidence in him and look forward to watching him lead our football team into the future.”
Joe Morrell, Co‑Athletic Director, added, “We are very excited to have Tom as our head football coach. Tom is an educator who understands that hard work must be in the classroom and on the field. He did a great job last year, and we have all the confidence he will continue the winning tradition and pride of West Haven football.”
