Educators of the Month

Jon TrpkoshJon Trpkosh | Bailey Middle School | 8th Grade Math Teacher

About: I have been teaching math for 18 years. After three years of teaching in Arizona and 11 years in New Haven, I became part of the Bailey community in 2021.

Fun Fact: I’ve ridden my bike across the state of Iowa (where I’m from) four times. When I’m not teaching math, I like to cook and go on hikes with my family.

Favorite Quote: “Teaching math is awesome — the more work a student puts in, the more they get out. Seeing kids have those light bulb, ‘Now I get it!’ moments is the best feeling.”

Favorite Part About the Job: I love how Bailey is a true melting pot of all the communities that make West Haven such an amazing town.

Jennifer LucibelliJennifer Lucibelli | West Haven High School | Fine Arts Teacher

About: I have been an art teacher in West Haven for 32 years, teaching every grade level — seven years in elementary, 17 years in middle school, and eight years at the high school.

Fun Fact: When I started working at WHHS, I replaced my sister, Debi Suraci, who retired after 39 years of teaching art in West Haven.

Favorite Quote: “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.” – Dr. Seuss

Favorite Part About the Job: My students motivate me every day. I have the best job — I get to create art every day with young adults who keep me connected to today’s pop culture! I also love the diversity of our school community. We have students from all around the globe, and as an art teacher, I enjoy learning about different traditions, crafts, and art styles from various cultures. Teaching art in West Haven is the perfect fit for me!
