Ty Reeves left West Haven High School with more than just memories of sports and clubs—he carried lessons in teamwork, discipline, and self-confidence that continue to guide him today. An athlete who played soccer, basketball, and baseball, and an active member of Peer Advocate, Class Council, and the Honors Society, Ty fully immersed himself in the WHHS experience. He recalls the impact of several teachers and coaches: Mr. Fielosh, Coach Pete Hamasian, Coach Luneau, Coach Pisano, and Mrs. Mitchell. “All my teachers and coaches had some sort of impact on me,” Ty says. “But being part of the baseball and soccer teams gave me the chance to meet lifelong friends and develop tangible skills I still use today.” Beyond athletic and academic achievement, he also values the relationships he formed, describing them as a cornerstone of his high school experience.
For Ty, having a clear sense of direction was key, even if that direction evolved over time. He advises students to set goals and outline a plan for achieving them. “Whether it’s college, trade school, or anything else, knowing what you want to accomplish and how to get there is crucial,” he explains. Along the way, Ty emphasizes the importance of confidence and self-reliance. “Keep working hard, stay confident, and don’t let other people’s opinions or achievements pull you off your path,” he says. These principles were reinforced not just in the classroom, but through the challenges of competitive sports and leadership roles, where perseverance and focus were always tested.
After graduating from WHHS, Ty attended the University of Connecticut, earning a degree in Journalism & Communications. His professional journey eventually led him to ESPN, where he works as a Content Associate in Live Event Production. He describes how perseverance and building genuine relationships opened doors: “In college, I attended an ESPN panel for my journalism class, asked questions, and followed up with thoughtful emails. Those connections led to an internship, and after the summer of 2022, I was offered a permanent role.” Ty’s story shows that early engagement, curiosity, and a willingness to reach out can turn opportunities into lasting experiences.
A guiding principle for Ty has always been: “Closed mouths don’t get fed.” Whether on the field, in the classroom, or in a professional setting, he believes in asking questions, taking initiative, and seizing opportunities. These values, cultivated during his time at WHHS, continue to shape how he navigates his career and life. They remind him that preparation, consistency, and self-confidence are as important in a professional newsroom as they were on the soccer field.
From leading on the soccer and baseball fields to producing live events for a major sports network, Ty Reeves’ journey demonstrates how dedication, curiosity, and confidence can transform high school experiences into lifelong advantages. The friendships, lessons, and drive he developed in West Haven remain at the heart of everything he does—proof that the foundation built in school can carry someone far beyond the crest of graduation. His story illustrates that the effort, discipline, and relationships fostered during those formative years can ripple outward, shaping not just a career, but the person you become along the way.
