Beyond the Crest

Alyssa GoldeFor Alyssa Golde, Class of 2016, the journey from West Haven High School to her current role as an International Admissions Officer at the University of Bridgeport has been shaped by a love of learning, a passion for connecting with others, and the confidence instilled in her during her time as a student. Today, she helps students from around the world chase their academic dreams, a path that reflects both her own interests in travel and culture as well as the influence of the teachers who inspired her at WHHS.

Looking back at her years at WHHS, Alyssa says it was the teachers who made the greatest impact. “There were so many amazing teachers and classes that it is honestly hard to pick,” she said. “One of my favorite courses was Philosophy with Mrs. Bruneau. She taught us so much, and made every lesson fun.” For Alyssa, those experiences showed how a single teacher’s energy could shape not only the classroom, but also a student’s outlook on learning itself.

When asked about her message for current students, Alyssa doesn’t hesitate to highlight the importance of self-confidence. “Believe in yourself—you never know what is going to happen tomorrow, but when you go into each day having your own back and knowing that you are both capable of and deserving of amazing things, nothing can shake you,” she explained. Just as important, she wishes she could remind her younger self of something simple: to slow down and savor the moments of high school. “Enjoy every moment! Time truly does fly.”

Her career path has been guided by a long-standing passion for education and cultural exchange. “I have always been extremely interested in travel, learning about other cultures, and helping students chase their dreams,” Alyssa said. “I always knew I wanted to work in the educational world, and am grateful that I’m able to now.” In her role today, she sees each student she helps as an opportunity to give back some of the encouragement she once received.

Not all of her memories from WHHS came from big events—sometimes it was the little moments that stuck. Alyssa recalls Mr. Jackson’s signature line after every lesson: “It’s too easy, folks!!” While lighthearted, the phrase carried a message of confidence and belief in students’ abilities. It’s that same spirit of encouragement, she says, that she brings into her own work with students navigating new academic journeys.

Alyssa’s story shows how the foundation built at WHHS continues to shape her life today. From thought-provoking classes and supportive teachers to a career dedicated to guiding others, she carries forward lessons of curiosity, confidence, and optimism—values that she now passes along to the next generation. For her, the impact of West Haven High goes far beyond the classroom; it lives on in the way she supports students, builds connections, and embraces every new opportunity with gratitude. Her path is a reminder of how the experiences within these halls can extend far into the future, helping shape not just careers, but the lives of others
