Carly Morabito and Maddyson Kaczmarek are athletes at West Haven High School this season. Carly competes on the girls varsity lacrosse team as the goalkeeper, while Maddyson competes on the girls varsity softball team playing second base. Each has taken on meaningful roles that require consistency and focus throughout practices and competition.
For Carly, one moment stood out during the season. “My favorite memory from this season was going to Colony Grill for pizza after our first scrimmage,” she said. “It was the first time we started to really bond as a team.” Maddyson reflected on a milestone experience of her own, saying, “My favorite memory from being on the softball team was starting my first varsity game.” She added, “It was such a big moment for me because it showed how much my hard work had paid off, and it pushed me to be more confident in myself.”
Carly and Maddyson also spoke about what they have learned through their roles this season. Carly explained, “One big thing I’ve learned is that your attitude sets the tone whether you mean it to or not.” She added that energy carries through a team, saying, “If you’re locked in at practice, running hard, staying positive even when things suck, your team feels that.” Maddyson focused on responsibility within her role, saying, “One thing I learned from being captain is not just thinking about myself but thinking about my whole team.” She added, “It also taught me how to stay composed under pressure and take responsibility not just for myself, but for the success and mindset of the entire group.”
Both athletes also balance strong commitments outside of their sports. Carly is currently ranked in the top 10 of her class and serves as Vice President of the Class of 2026 Class Council. Maddyson said, “One thing I’m proud of off the field is my commitment to balancing work, sports, school, and my social life.” She added that managing multiple responsibilities has helped her grow and prepare for future challenges.
Looking ahead, Carly will attend Clemson University and major in Psychology, while Maddyson will attend the University of Connecticut and also major in Psychology.
Each athlete credits important influences in their lives for helping shape who they are today. Carly said, “My mom has always been there for me, supporting me through everything and pushing me to do my best in all areas of my life.” She also said, “My coach has also had a huge impact on me, especially as an athlete and leader.” Maddyson said, “My dad is my biggest cheerleader and has taught me so much.” She added, “He works hard, stays dedicated to our family, and always pushes me to be my best.”
Carly Morabito and Maddyson Kaczmarek continue to make an impact through the way they approach their teams and responsibilities. Their experiences this season have shaped how they handle challenges and support those around them. As they move forward, both athletes will carry the lessons they have learned beyond high school into what comes next.
