BU 0210 Accounting I

This course provides a basic understanding of the fundamentals of accounting which involves the recording of financial information and the preparing of financial statements. The student will obtain an in-depth analysis and study of small business operation. This course will address the language of business, business practices, business transactions, the accounting cycle, and the maintenance and management of proper accounting records involved in business operation. Accounting I will also prepare the students for advanced study at the college level. This course requires basic math skills to be successful. Accounting I is required for students planning to take Accounting II.

Marketing and Management I is an introductory course designed to acquaint students with the world of marketing. Students will learn how marketing activities are conducted on a local, as well as global scale. This course stresses service and ethical relationships, especially from the viewpoint of the consumer.

Marketing and Management II is an advanced course of marketing, merchandising, and management. This is a detailed study of the principles of marketing and the application of these principles in the free enterprise system. Various management concepts are pursued. Students pursue the possibility of owning their own business in a comprehensive case project.

DECA is an integral part of the program and helps to provide leadership development activities. Students participate in regional, state and national DECA Career Development Conferences. Students can be involved in the operation of the school store, “The Devil’s Den”. In addition, DECA sponsors a variety of activities such as the annual Initiation & Installation Banquet, Winter Wonderland Semi-Formal dinner dance, as well as Fashion Fest for springtime prom fashions where marketing and promotional knowledge is put to use.

CS 0488 Webpage Design

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 | ½ year, .5 credit

This half year semester course provides students with a major emphasis on the principles and design of websites. Students will master HTML and then move into Adobe Creative Suite utilizing Dreamweaver and Photoshop. Students will start to create webpages for themselves and clients.

BU 0209 Google Applied Digital Skills

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 | ½ year, .5 credit

Google Applied Digital Skills teaches students the practical skills they need for work and life. Students will work both independently and collaboratively to build projects using Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawing and other G Suite apps. As students progress through themed lessons, they discover how the digital skills they are practicing apply to real-world situations, such as budgeting for a big purchase, finding credible sources about a topic, or planning an event. They also learn communication, collaboration, time management, persistence, and other “soft skills” in high demand for education and jobs. Projects will also include fun activities like creating personal badges, creating memes, and designing google sheet art. This course is educational and fun! A perfect elective that will earn each student the required .5 technology credit.

BU 0230 Mobile App Game Design I

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 | ½ year, .5 credit

Mobile games are a hot segment of the Mobile App Market. In this course students will develop their own mobile app game using a professional Mobile app development software called Game Salad. In this course students will master the ability to create and publish games using the Drag and Drop software from Game Salad Creator. Students will prepare and build games from start to finish and they will learn how to publish and sell their games in the mobile app marketplace.

This course is a continuation of Mobile App Game Design I. Students will dive deeper into the world of Mobile gaming, exploring concept development and using advanced programming with Objective C, Html 5 and X Code.

Business Management is a full year course designed to teach students to understand and analyze various management theories and apply them to the workplace. Students will learn the process of using organizational resources effectively and efficiently to achieve organizational goals through planning, organizing, leading/directing, and evaluating/controlling. Students will have opportunities to experience business management and marketing first hand with work opportunities when available.

BU 0439 AP Computer Science

Grades 11, 12 | 1.00 credit

Prerequisite: Successful completion of CS 0488 Webpage Design or BU 0230 Mobile App Game Design I or Successful completion of Project Lead the Way STEM 1002 Digital Electronics and STEM 1001 Principles of Engineering.

In this course, students will learn computer science by building socially useful mobile apps. In addition to programming and computer science principles, the course is project-based and emphasizes writing, communication, collaboration, and creativity. This course is supported by the Mobile Computer Science Principles Project (Mobile CSP), an NSF-funded effort to provide a broad and rigorous introduction to computer science based on App Inventor, a mobile programming language for Android devices. The course is based on the College Board's Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science Principles curriculum framework for introductory computer science.

BU 0204 Introduction to Coding

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 | ½ year, .5 credit

This is a course that touches on all aspects of coding giving students a broad base of what it means to code for different modalities. Students will touch on Web Design coding with HTML, CSS and Javascript. Students will then be introduced to coding utilizing drag- and drop programming creating robot movements with Code.org and CodeHS. Students will get a brief exposure to creating a mobile application with MIT App Inventor and then progress onto creating programs in the marketable programming languages of Python, Java and database programing language SQL.

BU 0222 Introduction to Coding II

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 | ½ year, .5 credit

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Intro to Coding I.

This course will continue their programming skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript. SQL and PYTHON along with PYtHON(with Turtle). Students will be given real world assignments that will prepare them for the Computer Science Workforce, Careers and Colleges.

Macroeconomics introduces students to the principles that apply to an economic system as a whole. The course places particular emphasis on the study of national income and price-level determination. It also develops students’ familiarity with economic performance measures, the financial sector, stabilization policies, economic growth, and international economics. Students learn to use graphs, charts, and data to analyze, describe, and explain economic concepts.

Personal Finance introduces students to the complexities of the marketplace and the effect it has on many spending and buying decision. Students will learn skills necessary to: become wise consumers, manage their personal finances, and develop a better understanding of the nature of commerce in our society. Attention will be focused on both substance and the process of making individual financial decisions. Finally, students will learn how their values, interests, and aptitudes relate to their specific financial decisions now and in the future.
