John"Whitey" Piurek Baseball Field

Home to West Haven High School Baseball.

John "Whitey" Piurek Field is named after former baseball coach and athletic director, John "Whitey" Piurek. After opening in May 30, 1990, it was soon closed due to drainage problems. Renovations on the baseball field started April 2003 and were completed in April 2004.

Renovations included:

  • New Drainage system

  • Moving the backstop back 45 feet back from previous spot

  • New dugouts

  • Daktronics Scoreboard

  • PA System

  • Stadium-type bleachers with 1500 seats

  • Pressbox

  • Batting cage

  • 2 Bullpens

  • New Musco Light-Structure Green Lighting

  • Fencing the field perimeter

  • Sodding the field

  • Beam clay infield

The West Haven High School baseball team played its first game on the newly renovated field on May 10, 2004 against cross-town rival Notre Dame. Piurek Field is also the home of West Haven American Legion Post 71.
