ELEMENTS OF ART EXTRAVAGANZA:
http://www.princetonol.com/groups/iad/lessons/early/ElementExtravaganza.html

Numerous art exercises help young students explore the elements of art. Activities include Audible Textures (students match sounds to a certain texture to understand it better), positive and negative statues games, Blue Period collages, line dancing, and many other creative projects.

MARC CHAGALL LESSON PLAN:
http://yn.la.ca.us/cec/cecmisc/cecmisc.27.txt

Students will become familiar with the unique style of artist Marc Chagall by an in-class study of some of his works. They will discuss common themes and elements that run through his art, and then create a painting of their own town that would identify in some aspect with his work.

IN THE STYLE OF MATISSE:
http://www.princetonol.com/groups/iad/lessons/elem/elem33.html

In the style of Henri Matisse's collage work, elementary students will use ripped paper techniques to create a still life, focusing on color, form, and shape. Three lessons allow students to experiment with three different art mediums, all in the style of Matisse.

MAGNIFICENT MONETS:

After becoming familiar with the styles and techniques of impressionist painters in general, students will study the water lilies series of Monet's prints to understand his own particular style. Students will then employ both oil pastels and gel stix to compose their own versions of Impressionistic paintings, with layers of colors and stippled brush effects.

ART OF THE MASTERS:
http://www.princetonol.com/groups/iad/lessons/elem/elem34.html

Here is a general outline and a few good suggestions for simple activities which allow elementary students to understand the art masters. For Michelangelo, your students will be painting under their desks to try and replicate in a small measure the difficulty of his immense task with the Sistine Chapel ceiling.

DRAWING WITH DALI:
http://www.sanford-artedventures.com/teach/pdfs/Drawing_Dali.pdf

Before pursuing their own "melted" paintings with pastels and gel pens, students will learn about Dali, the relationship of art to culture, and the importance of value in art.

THE MASTERS GALLERY:

Here is a great little spot on the web for elementary classes to learn all about the masters. Each artist page includes a major work of art, followed by a discussion and an overview of the artist's life and influences.
