Senior Showcase: A focus on helping others

Community service and helping others were major aspects of high school life for Mikayla Hickman and Erin Collins, and they don’t foresee college and beyond being any different. The two new West Haven High School grads are now in college, with Hickman hoping to later become an art teacher and mentor students and Collins planning to eventually go into social work. Both served as Peer Advocates at WHHS, which gave them opportunities to volunteer for the local Autism Family Support Group, help out at elementary school events, coordinate the annual Toys for Joy toy drive during the holidays, and assist new students on the first day of school. Hickman is attending Southern Connecticut State University, while  Collins is at Iona College in New York. Read more about their stories here.
