Senior Showcase: Grads hope to serve hometown
senior showcase

The Senior Showcase is a series that highlights West Haven High School graduating seniors.
For Thomas Wilkerson and Jake Lynch, questions of careers and, “What do I want to be when I grow up?” were always easy. These Class of 2015 West Haven High School graduates have long had the answer: They want to be firefighters right here in West Haven. The friends will start by taking EMT (emergency medical technician) classes this fall and then enter the Connecticut Fire Academy. They hope to also serve as volunteer firefighters in West Haven before applying for permanent jobs. “I’ve always wanted to be a firefighter, ever since I was little, since my dad is one. I want to follow in his footsteps,” said Lynch. Wilkerson said he’s always been interested in the career. “I want to help people. I’ve known I don’t want to sit at a desk all day; I want to use my hands. I’m excited about it,” Wilkerson said.
