  WHHS holds academic award ceremonies

WHHS held its Academic Awards Ceremony today to honor students for their performance in various subjects, perfect attendance, leadership and more. There were also awards from outside groups, such as the Marine Corps and Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution. Book awards were presented to members of the junior class. Earlier this week, WHHS held its Honors/AP Awards ceremony for students who successfully completed honors and AP (college-level) courses. Students receive a certificate if they've taken such courses for one year, a pin for two years, a sweatshirt with their name in embroidery for three years, and a gold cord for graduation for four years. WHHS also recognized 38 seniors who've taken 10 or more honors and AP classes.

Engineers hold panel discussion at WHHS
A group of engineers from Sikorsky visited WHHS this week and participated in a panel discussion with around 60 students who had signed up to attend. Westies heard about the employees' various paths to becoming an engineer, past work experiences, and the importance of self-reflection as a way to improve your work as an employee or student. Some of the engineers are also mentors to WHHS football players, and one was a WHHS alumnus (on right in above photo).
