Students join engineering challenge
A group of 25 West Haven High School engineering students recently participated in the Engineering Challenge Program for the 21st Century, a program facilitated by the Birch Group and held on the last four Saturdays at Gateway Community College and WHHS. Students explored engineering technologies like fuel cell cars, as well as team building, leadership and technical writing. The initiative was supported by the Connecticut College of Technology, the Regional Center for Next Generation Manufacturing, National Science Foundation and Gateway. Students worked with experienced teachers, John Birch (director of the Engineering Challenge Program for 21st Century and president of Birch Group), and Eric Flynn (Gateway Engineering and Applied Technology Department Chair).

Free district mobile app now available

Our new school district cell phone app is available for download for free in the app store on your iPhone or Android. Type "West Haven Public Schools" in your app store to download it. The app makes it easy to use your mobile device to view menus, sports schedules, school phone numbers, staff directories and teacher website links. There is also a direct link to Parent Portal, School Climate Surveys, the yearly calendar, and more. When opening it for the first time, it will ask if you want "push notifications." Clicking yes means you'll receive notifications we put out through the app, including snow days/delays/early dismissals, and school power outages. Once in the app, choose which schools you want to see push notifications/calendar events/news for by clicking the small gear-looking symbol in the upper right-hand corner.
