  great skate
West Haven families came to Bennett Ice Rink Tuesday night for the first part of the Great Skate Bennett Ice Rink Open House event to enjoy free skating, lessons, equipment rentals, raffles and more. The fun continues tonight, Friday, April 24, from 6-8 p.m., at Bennett Rink, which is on the WHHS campus, with more free skating. The WHHS boys and girls hockey teams will also be there for meet and greets, the WHHS Blue Devil will pose for photos, and local youth hockey teams will be there with sign-up information. All second-graders also visited Bennett Wednesday for "Class at the Rink." Our teams and coaches are proud to be sharing West Haven's passion for hockey and skating with everyone this week.
Savin Rock holds more Homework Diners
diner
Savin Rock Community School has been holding more "Homework Diner" nights that give teachers a chance to work with students and their parents on homework and learning strategies. Here are a few snapshots from one of the recent SRCS Homework Diner sessions. Teachers helped students with their homework, and Math Coach Miss Wendt provided useful tips for parents about helping at home with math.

Rotary Club donates Nooks to 4th grade
nooks
The Rotary Club of West Haven has donated two Nook tablets to each and every fourth-grade classroom in the city thanks to a special fundraising project from last year's Rotary Club annual auction and dinner. The Nooks were delivered to classrooms this week, with Rotarians talking to students about the project and the importance that the Rotary places on reading and education. The Nooks will be used for various literacy programs and for Daily 5 classroom activities (which include reading to self, reading to others, writing, word work and listening to reading). Thank you to again to the Rotary Club and all who attended the dinner and auction and made contributions.

Westie Day of Hope set for May 3 at WHHS
