Haley 1st-graders tour City Hall, BOE
haley tour
The Seth G. Haley Elementary School first grade visited City Hall Thursday to get a first-hand look at the inner workings of various government departments and the Board of Education. Students saw where they can register to vote when they turn 18, stopped by City Council chambers, learned which departments coordinate youth programs they've attended, met with Mayor Edward M. O'Brien in his office, spoke with Superintendent of Schools Neil C. Cavallaro, and read a story with Mayoral Executive Assistant John W. Lewis in the Board of Education meeting room.

Washington rally preps kids for testing
Washington Elementary School held a Friday morning assembly to help students feel relaxed and confident about upcoming state testing. "Celebrities," including the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Einstein, and Alvin and the Chipmunks, offered test-taking tips, such as getting a good night's rest, eating breakfast before or at school, and rereading test questions. Principal Steve Lopes also starred as "LL Cool Lopes" with a rap song about "doing your best on the SBAC test" before a crowd of cheering students.
