WHHS events prep for college, career
college

West Haven High School's School Counseling Department held two events this week to help students prepare for college and a career. The College Kick Start program held its first of three sessions Wednesday at the University of New Haven and gave students who were selected on a first-come, first-served basis a chance to watch a mock college interview, learn more about how colleges evaluate applications, begin their college essay, start requesting recommendation letters from teachers, and begin other application-related tasks. The next two sessions will be held in August (when the Common Application, which is accepted by schools across the country, officially becomes available for current high school juniors) at WHHS. Students will then finish the applications and get advice from an admissions representative. On Thursday, the department held College/Career Connection Night at WHHS for students in grades 9-11 and their families. Attendees had a choice of going to sessions on how to pay for college/career school, how to plan for the future during each year of high school, how to earn college credit in high school, and more. There was also a job fair at the event with information on trade schools.
