Current Bailey Middle School 8th-graders and their parents/guardians are invited to West Haven High School Course Selection Night on Tuesday, March 3, in the Bailey auditorium, to learn more about choosing courses for freshman year at WHHS. Learn about the WHHS Freshman Academy, electives, AP courses, special programs and more. The event is sponsored by Bailey and WHHS counselors. Boxing club teaches kids exercises Friday;
PTA fundraiser at club set for March 5
Trainers from Title Boxing Club, of Milford, spent the day at Alma E. Pagels Elementary School Friday to teach Pagels youngsters some boxing moves and warm-up exercises. The club will also be hosting a family exercise night as a Pagels PTA fundraiser March 5; a $15 donation gives you a 1-hour boxing class session, with gloves provided. All fitness levels are welcome, and participants should dress for fitness fun and bring a water bottle. Pagels youngsters on Friday were taught types of basic boxing moves and hit mitts held by Title trainers. Trainers also taught students other exercises that help with balance. Congrats to WHHS students and CAS Arts Awards recipients Tommy Nelson & Kevin McDaniel; CAS Scholar Athlete Award recipients Jolie Morrell & Justin Tuschoff; CABE Student Leadership Award recipients Alice Obas & Jesus Yanez; and SCC Scholar Leaders Kharl Reynado & Michael Tran.

WHHS students can sign up for a March 28 EdgePrep SAT/ACT Test Preparation session online. The cost for the first 20 students is $99, and additional students are $135 each.

Congrats to seniors Jolie Morrell & Justin Tuschhoff, who are the CIAC Scholar-Athletes of the year for WHHS.

family-friendly music event at Z's Corner Cafe tomorrow, Saturday, will benefit the West Haven Schools music program and feature a performance by a WHHS student. Wimbash 2015 features Living Colour's Doug Wimbish and many other bands.

  Washington, Savin Rock, Forest hold math nights
math night

Washington Elementary School and Savin Rock Community School held a Carnival Math Night at Washington this week. Forest also held a Family Math Night. Thank you to all who braved the cold weather to come have some fun while practicing math and to the staff members who helped organize the events. More family nights will be coming up at schools over the next few months.

WHHS senior commits to UNH for soccer

WHHS senior Marisa Pacapelli has committed to attending and playing soccer for the University of New Haven. She will major in marine biology. Marisa is a three-sport athlete for the Blue Devils: She has been a starting varsity player all four years on the girls soccer team, the girls hockey team and the girls softball team, and is also a captain this year for soccer and hockey. She helped lead the soccer team to three state tournaments. Marisa is also a dedicated student, as well as a peer advocate, member of the National Honor Society, and Rotary Club Scholar-athlete.
