The session targeted girls because women are underrepresented in the STEM workforce, and was part of the school's effort to teach more WHHS girls about STEM opportunities. WHHS recently formed a Girls in STEM club and hopes to soon bring in guest speakers. Students at Friday's information session were encouraged to visit engineergirl.org and discovere.org and to take a survey on their STEM interests at .

Students learn fractions through bball
Savin Rock Community School's fourth-graders spent some time this week practicing free throws for their latest math challenge: Can you beat LeBron James' free throw shooting average? Students had to determine the fraction of shots made and convert that to a decimal. At the end, they compared the fractions to see if they tied or beat Lebron. The activity was part of an effort to use real-life scenarios in class lessons.
