Bailey students visit WHHS culinary classes

A group of around 11 Bailey Middle School students visited West Haven High School this week to learn about the WHHS culinary program. The students had expressed interest in enrolling in such a program in high school. They met with Food Services Director Meg Kingston and attended classes with teacher Dana Kent, who gave baking demonstrations and offered the eighth-graders a chance to help prep food for the school's Culinary Cafe. The cafe is run by culinary students and makes and sells lunches to WHHS staff.
Schools hold donation drives to help community
Our schools are working hard to make sure those in need have a happy holiday season. Washington Elementary School (pictured) recently held a food drive for WHEAT, while Alma E. Pagels Elementary School collected toys to contribute to West Haven High School's Toys for Joy program, which is run with local city firefighters. Other schools are also holding food and toy drives, as well as helping families within their school communities.
