Today, Carrigan Intermediate School (pictured) donated more than 8,000 items from a school-wide donation drive. Students and staff helped pack everything, and city workers made the delivery. Alma E. urban debate league

The West Haven High School Urban Debate League has been performing very well at recent competitions. At a tournament earlier this fall, senior Tatiana Gay was named the top speaker, and she and her teammate from the Sound School also came in fifth place. Sophomore Andrew Gordon, competing for the first time, was the 9th-place novice speaker. Sophomore Evelyn Fabian also did a great job. (All three are pictured above with Yale coach, Ani Sivaram.) More than 30 debaters from area high schools competed. On November 7, Brisa Cruz, partnering with Hillhouse School students, was on the #1 ranked novice team and 4th-ranked team overall. Tatiana and Jamie Kelley were the 7th-ranked team overall. Tatiana was the 9th-ranked speaker.
