Schools might have seemed quiet this summer without their usual flurry of activity, but maintenance crews were busy at district buildings with repairs and upgrades.

Please remember to send your two proofs of residency to your child's school and to write your child's name on the documents.

Open House Nights draw crowds
Schools saw great crowds for Open House/Back to School Night events over the past two weeks. Thank you to all who attended and to teachers, administrators and school staff for putting a lot of hard work into the programs. Bailey Middle School's Open House is our last back-to-school event and will be Thursday, Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m.

Students explore interests in summer programs
Jakub  kharl
For many teens, hot-weather months away from school aren’t just a time for a vacation or summer jobs. Many West Haven High School students took advantage of time off from school to explore possible career paths and college majors, build their resumes for college, and make connections in their future fields. WHHS student Jakub Grubski (pictured) spent time this summer wearing a protective suit while conducting research in a Yale lab. Student Kharl Reynado (above right) could be found in courtrooms and a local law office during an internship with WHHS alumna and lawyer Shari Shore. Meanwhile, student Tatiana Gay was scrutinizing crime scene clues at the University of New Haven Crime Scene Investigation Academy, with her program fees covered through a West Haven Public Schools-UNH partnership. Other students participated in different UNH summer academies, the American Legion Laurel Girls State government education program, art school sessions, Yale residential programs, and more.
