 News and Notes
WHHS Senior Showcase: Miya Bidon foresees a future in the pharmaceutical industry and is bound for Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Geordann Daguplo is studying music industry and business management at the University of New Haven.

A long-time educator is now overseeing language arts, social studies, library/media studies and testing for the district, replacing an employee who retired this summer. Meet Colette Bennett.
 
A group of district staff, students and recent alumni volunteered at Camp Rising Sun (a CT camp for kids who have or have had cancer) Sunday. See the district Facebook page for photos!

WHHS sports tryouts continue Saturday, August 23. Please note: Girls soccer tryouts will now be at Ken Strong Stadium. Click here for full schedule.

Sodexo has helped the district's food services department turn a profit and will soon be bringing schools even more new menu items and programming.

Orientations held for staff, students

West Haven High School held New Student Orientation this week for students and parents, while the district held orientation for new teachers and staff. WHHS orientation welcomed new students with help from Peer Advocates and included school tours, teacher meet-and-greets, club sign-ups, Naviance, Power School and Remind 101 registration, a raffle and an info session for parents. New teacher and staff orientation gave an overview of the district's academic programs and operations. Welcome to all of our new students and staff across the district!

Seniors get to work at college app event

The West Haven High School Counseling Department's College Application Kick Start program helped rising seniors with the college application process this week during three workshop sessions. Counselors assisted around 25 seniors in filling out resumes and the common application. Students also received advice on college interviews and heard from a local college admissions rep.
 Back to School reminders for all grades
* Families should have received a letter about new online registration for returning students. Click here to go to the online program.
* Two proofs of residency must be provided to schools for all students. Please write your child's name on proofs.
* Updated bus routes are on the Board of Education website.
* Families who believe they are eligible for free or reduced lunch should apply as soon as possible. Click here for information. Applications are available in multiple languages.
* Add money to a student's meal account online through the My School Bucks online payment system, which is used at all district schools.
* Kindergarten physical exams and Grade 7 immunizations are due before the first day of school.
* Students needing medication to be administered by school staff in school must have a written order from their Health Care Provider.
