Bailey music lessons hit a high note
music lesson
Student-musicians are giving their skills a tune-up during private summer lessons taught by Bailey Middle School band teacher Rachel Mekeel. Registration opened in the spring to students who play a band instrument and are entering grades 5-12. Some of the 14 participants want to improve before school starts, while others hope to audition for the Connecticut Music Educators Association festival or for college. This is the third summer the program has been offered.
Summer program promotes literacy

A summer reading camp is helping around 70 youngsters master basic literacy skills before they enter first or second grade. The program at Savin Rock Community School aims to strengthen Savin Rock and Forest Elementary School students' reading and writing skills. It targeted last year's kindergarteners and first-graders from Forest and Savin Rock because the state labeled both buildings “review schools." Teachers recommended students who could benefit from extra lessons.
WHHS website featuring new STEM section
Visit the new STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) section of the West Haven High School website to learn about how our students are building robots, working with a 3-D printer, and designing buildings using the Project Lead The Way curriculum.
