Tips to help make good attendance a habit
perfect attendance
As you get back into your school-year routine, here are some ways to make sure good school attendance is a priority. (And shout-out to Ms. Virgalla and her students at Carrigan Intermediate School, pictured above, who were proud of their stellar attendance this week!)

-- Plan trips, doctor visits and other appointments for when school is closed.

--Set up backpacks the night before so your student is on time in the morning to catch the school bus.

--Avoid picking up your child before normal dismissal time.

--Remember that absences, tardies and early dismissals all add up.

--Take advantage of the school breakfast program.

--Check your child’s attendance record on Power School regularly.

--Talk with your children about the importance of attending school on time every day.

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy visits Bailey
The school district welcomed U.S. Senator Chris Murphy Thursday afternoon to Bailey Middle School while Murphy took a break from his week-long walk across Connecticut. Murphy has been walking up to 30 miles a day town-to-town to talk with constituents. At Bailey, Murphy visited classrooms and the library media center, while encouraging students to make their voices heard, even though they can't vote for a few more years.
