They are still considered returning students.) The online registration form is only for students who are completely new to the district.

School starts Monday: Welcome back!
back to school

We look forward to seeing all of our students and staff on Monday for the first day of the new school year! It will be a full day of school for grades K-12.

Bus routes will be in full effect starting the first day.
Students should be at their bus stops earlier than their scheduled time.
Parents are responsible for their children arriving safely at the assigned bus stop and are strongly encouraged to be at the stop to greet their children in the afternoon.
Kindergartners will not be allowed off the bus without a parent or guardian there to greet them.

Parents of students who are not taking the bus for the first few days of school, or who won’t be taking the bus during the school year, should notify the school in writing.
New students and children entering kindergarten must have had a physical exam competed and must submit the paperwork to their school before they can start class.
Students needing medication to be administered by school staff must have a written order from their health care provider.
The Food Services Department will be serving breakfast and lunch at all schools starting on the first day. Any families who may be eligible for free or reduced meal prices must fill out an application as soon as possible. Forms can be found by clicking here and at every school. They must be submitted by Oct. 1. For questions, call Susanne Basta at 203-937-4373.
Students should arrive on the first day of school with a backpack, pencil and folder. Lists of any additional school supplies needed may be distributed to students at that time.
Families are encouraged to download the school district’s free cell phone app by searching “West Haven Public Schools” in their device’s app store.

Make good attendance a priority
We are excited to announce the launch of Superintendent Neil Cavallaro's new "Here!" Campaign for Attendance as we start the 2016-17 school year. School attendance is one of the most important building blocks for student success. In order for students to reach their potential and fully benefit from our curriculum, they must be in school from the first bell until dismissal every day. Our schools provide West Haven youngsters with a rigorous academic program, countless clubs and extracurricular activities, and support services—but these tools can only make a difference if a student is in school to use them. All families should have received an all-call this week about attendance from Superintendent Cavallaro, and you'll be hearing more about it in the coming days and throughout the year. Good attendance will be our special focus this year, and we hope you make it a priority as well, starting on the first day of school Monday.
New teachers welcomed; staff prepare for 1st day

The district welcomed new teachers this week at an orientation session, where they heard from Superintendent Neil Cavallaro, Assistant Superintendent Anne Druzolowski, Mayor Edward O'Brien, and Board of Education Chairman James Morrissey. They also met with academic coordinators to discuss the upcoming school year. Later in the week, all district teachers returned and received professional development in workshops.
Westies on Wheels celebrates new school year with community
The Aug. 18 Westies on Wheels back-to-school celebration and school supply giveaway saw a fantastic turn-out. Our staff volunteers enjoyed catching up with returning Westies and meeting new students and their families. Thank you to everyone who helped make this year's event possible. Students had the chance to receive free backpacks, rulers, folders, pencils, erasers, and other school supplies, as well as bicycle helmets, hygiene items and carbon monoxide detectors. Volunteers also handed out information on school and community programs and new student registration.
