News & Notes

• All parents/guardians whose children are eligible for a school bus should have received in the mail, or will soon be receiving, a postcard with their busing information on it for the new school year. Bus routes will still be posted on school websites and in the school district's free app (search West Haven Public Schools in your phone's app store if you haven't already downloaded it).

• Families who may be eligible for free or reduced lunch prices may begin filling out the application (it must be filled out each year by October 1).
Click here for info and to print the application.

WHHS athletes and students trying out for teams must complete and turn in forms for a sports physical before they can participate. Click here for the form a doctor must fill out.

• Students in any grades needing medication to be administered by school staff must have a written order from their health care provider.

Parents of incoming kindergartners and new students in any other grade are reminded that their child's physical must be done before school starts, or the child will not be able to start classes on the first day of school. The form must also be sent to your child's school before the first day of classes

The West Haven Public School District is holding new student registration next week on Aug. 22-24 and Aug. 29-Sept. 2 at Molloy School. Be sure to register BEFORE school starts (the first day of school is Monday, August 29) and submit required paperwork. For more information, click here.

Incoming WHHS 9th-graders invited to Freshman Orientation
West Haven High School is holding Freshman Orientation on Monday, August 22, from 8-11 a.m., to give incoming 9th-graders a preview of what's to come this year. We look forward to welcoming the WHHS Class of 2020. Students will receive tours of the school's cafeteria, library media center, gym and freshmen academy classrooms, receive their locker combinations, see a presentation in the auditorium, and take photos for their school IDs. There will also be a meet-and-greet with teachers, raffles, snacks and class info. Don't miss out on this chance to get acquainted with WHHS--get all your questions answered and find your classrooms now, before all of the excitement and activity of the first day of school. Peer Advocate students will be there to help, and they will be available to assist new students on the first day of classes as well.

Back to School
The West Haven Public School District is set to welcome back students on Aug. 29, which is a full day of classes. The district is reminding families of some back-to-school basics.

*The Food Services Department will be serving breakfast and lunch at all schools starting on the first day of school.
*Parents of students who are not taking the bus for the first few days of school, or who won’t be taking the bus during the school year, should notify the school in writing before or on the first day of school.
*Students should arrive on the first day of school with a backpack, pencil and folder. Lists of any additional school supplies needed may be distributed to students at that time.
*Students must provide two proofs of residency to their school, as per the district’s annual requirement. Acceptable proofs include copies of a lease or mortgage statement and copies of utility, phone or cable bills. Families should fax or bring the proofs of residency to school before classes start, or students can bring the proofs of residency on the first day of school. Fax numbers are available on the school websites.
