News & Notes


The West Haven Public Library is holding weekly STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) events in June and July at the main branch and Piantino branch for kids on topics like science and kitchen chemistry, engineering and building, and art. Each session starts at 4:30 p.m. and provides dinner and a free book for participants. There will also be programs for parents at the same time. Attention Bailey RIMA participants: The DVDs are finished and corrected. They are available for pick up in the Bailey Main office from 7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. every day. If you are unable to pick up the DVD, it will be mailed to you after next Friday, June 24. 

The school district's free summer meal program will run from July 5-August 5 at locations across the city for West Haven children 18 and under. Breakfast and lunch will be offered. Students do not need to come to a site each day or show ID. They can simply stop by and receive a meal.

Yale is holding free summer language camps to give students a taste of Arabic or KiSwahili at Wilbur Cross High School from July 1-July 15. The deadline to register is July 24. Learn conversational language and cross-cultural skills, and learn about the cultures and food of Africa and the Middle East. Click here for a flyer and registration form.



Congratulations, WHHS Class of 2016!

‎West Haven High School bid a fond farewell to the Class of 2016 Monday, awarding diplomas to more than 350 graduating seniors at an evening commencement ceremony in Ken Strong Stadium. The class as a whole completed close to 17,000 hours of community service, and 178 of the students were awarded more than $125,000 in scholarships from WHHS groups and local organizations. The new WHHS alumni will now be heading off to colleges like Yale University, Rhode Island School of Design, Clemson University, Morehouse University, the University of Connecticut, the University of New Haven and Southern Connecticut State University, attending trade schools, enlisting in the military or entering the workforce.
