Class marks Memorial Day in special way
social studies class

A WHHS U.S. History class marked Memorial Day in a special way last week with teacher Mark Consorte--they toured veterans and war memorials at Bradley Point, heard about the Battle of Savin Rock of 1779 during the Revolutionary War from Ed Quirk, and received donated DVD copies from Ed of a reenactment of the British invasion of West Haven to use in class and share with other district schools. Ed is a former West Haven teacher, who taught at three district schools and has been a substitute teacher at WHHS. He was chairman of the reenactment in 1979 and recently worked with WHHS graduate Michael Kiaunis and the WHHS video production department to transfer footage of the reenactment from 35mm slides to DVDs. The DVDs will be used for history lessons in district schools to teach students about a Revolutionary War battle that happened just down the road from where their schools now stand.
