Kindergarten registration was held this week at Molloy School. Youngsters received skills assessments, vision and hearing screenings, and a bag of goodies to help them get ready for school in the fall. Thank you to our local sponsors-- ShopRite of West Haven, Whitie Bensen and Woodlawn Duckpin Bowling Alley--for donating funding and supplies for the bags. Families are reminded to get their child's physical exam completed before school starts if they have not already, and to turn in any paperwork they did not bring to registration. Additional registration sessions will be held in the summer for those who were unable to attend this week.

WHHS girls hockey coach, captain honored
hockey

The West Haven High School girls hockey Coach Erin Blake was named the the SCC Division II Coach of the Year, and girls hockey captain Gabi Prisco, SCC Division II Player of the Year. This was the first year the WHHS team joined forces with Sacred Heart Academy hockey players in a co-op arrangement. The team finished with a 10-10-2 record and made it to the SCC Division II championship in February. Westies weren’t victorious in the championship, but still had plenty to celebrate after the game when Blake and Prisco received their awards, both of which are voted on by SCC Division II coaches.

Everyone invited to 'One Book, One School Community' project
one book one school

WHHS and the West Haven Public Library have launched a school-wide book project that they hope will encourage students to examine their personal beliefs, and they’re inviting the public to join in. The initiative, called “One Book, One School Community,” is centered around the book “This I Believe: The Personal Philosophies of Remarkable Men and Women," which is based on an NPR series of the same name. The WHHS School Governance Council is overseeing the program at the school. The public library purchased copies of the book for WHHS and the city’s three library branches. Programs will be held at all three library branches. Click here for more information.
