Schools celebrate Read Across America Day

Schools across the district celebrated Read Across America Day Wednesday, March 2, which is Dr. Seuss' birthday. From hosting guest readers (including Superintendent Neil Cavallaro, Assistant Superintendent Anne Druzolowski, WHHS seniors and United Way volunteers), to putting on skits (Pagels teachers performed Daisy-Head Mayzie), to dressing in costumes (including the Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 and Thing 2), teachers made sure it was a day to remember, and one that would help young Westies fall in love with reading and stories. For more details on school activities and a photo slideshow, click here.
New WHHS robotics club competes for first time
West Haven High School's VEX Robotics Club competed last weekend in the Connecticut Technology Engineering Education Association’s Nothing But Net Qualifier competition on Feb. 27 at Middletown High School. They won the first round, but then dealt with a systems malfunction, making the next rounds a bit more difficult. Our 7 students who attended--Oreoluwa Olowe, Arsalan Sumra, Marianne Loo, John Saier, Irish Esperida, Sumedha Chowdhury, and James Delgado--still had fun and did a great job with WHHS teacher Mr. Barraco representing West Haven.

Amber will attend Quinnipiac University in the fall.

The Carrigan Intermediate School Drama Club performed "Alice in Wonderland" this week in the school auditorium. It was a great showcase of student talent and certainly entertained the crowd with wacky costumes, a colorful set and many songs.
