Savin Rock, Washington families celebrate Dr. Seuss
  seuss night

Savin Rock Community School and Washington Elementary School communities joined together at Savin Rock for a Family Literacy Night yesterday that celebrated the Cat in the Hat and Dr. Seuss. Staff dressed as Seuss characters, handed out books to youngsters, showed the "Cat in the Hat" original cartoon, and conducted a writing activity with students. Families also received a free dinner. More than 400 students and parents attended, and we thank all who came, as well as our staff who planned the event and helped out.

WHHS cheerleaders compete at nationals
Good luck to our West Haven High School cheerleaders, who left yesterday for Florida to compete in the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship at Walt Disney World. The squad has already taken home honors this year in local events. In December at regionals, which were held at Hofstra University in New York, WHHS cheerleaders won first place in both of their performances for the Medium Varsity Non-Tumbling division and the Game Day division. They will compete in both of those categories in Florida as well. Last year, the group placed 3rd in the nation in the Medium Varsity Game Day division.
School Counseling week helps parents, students
  counseling week

West Haven High School celebrated School Counseling Week by holding special events for students and parents and highlighting ingredients of the counseling program’s "Recipe for Success." Parents of freshmen and sophomores attended "Coffee with a Counselor" Tuesday and Thursday, while seniors and their parents received FAFSA help Thursday from a consultant. Students and staff wore college/career shirts Wednesday, and students received advice during the week on how to be more successful in school and how to plan for their future. Students are still reminded to complete the Naviance "Recipe for Success" survey (log into Naviance, click the "About Me" tab, and then choose the survey from the column on the left-hand side) for a chance to win movie tickets.
