Wednesday, Dec. 23, is the last day for WHHS juniors and seniors to apply for the UNH Charging Ahead free college class program for the spring semester. Applications are available in WHHS School Counseling. This opportunity provides students a jump start on their college education even if they do not enroll at UNH. For more info, click here.

A free youth lacrosse clinic will be held over winter break on Dec. 28 and 30 for boys and girls ages 7-15 by the WHHS lacrosse team and West Haven Youth Lacrosse league. Click here for more information.

Mackrille holds math bee in grades 3 & 4

Edith E. Mackrille Elementary School held math bees for third and fourth grades this week. Students in fourth grade participated in math bees focused on division facts, while the third-grade bee was for multiplication facts. Individual classrooms had bees, and finalists went onto grade-wide competitions
. Each class also chose a color to wear to show support for their finalists during the grade-wide competitions.
Business makes holiday donation to Savin Rock

Savin Rock Community School received a donation of more than 300 items this morning from the Regional Water Authority in New Haven, which recently held a donation drive for the school to help make the holidays a little brighter for students and families in need. Donations included gift cards, toys, hats, gloves, jackets, clothing, backpacks and more.

Therapy dog visits pre-K classroom

A representative of Animal-Assisted Therapy Services of Woodbridge visited a Savin Rock Community School pre-kindergarten class Dec. 10 with therapy dog Emma. The students’ learned about Emma, decorated stockings for dogs at the West Haven Animal Shelter, and practiced counting by filling each stocking with 10 treats. The therapy dog’s visit and the stocking project demonstrated the class’ “sharing and giving” theme for December, with lessons on social and communication skills and showing kindness to people and animals.
