The public library is holding a holiday party Dec. 5 and pajama story time Dec. 15, and the Ward-Heitmann House is hosting holiday story time Dec. 12.

Bennett offers free skating tonight at Midnight Madness

Come to a free public skate open to the entire West Haven community tonight, Friday, at Bennett Ice Rink from 10:45-11:45 p.m. The Midnight Madness event will help kick off the winter sports season and feature free skating, raffles, prizes, giveaways and free T-shirts. Stick around to watch a midnight scrimmage by the West Haven High School boys hockey team.
Forest students practice math with Arithmetickles

Forest Elementary School families were treated to a Family Math Night this week featuring educational entertainment by Arithmetickles, a show that involves students in theater games that reinforce classroom math concepts. They also were offered a pasta dinner and got to chat with teachers.


WHHS holding Financial Aid Night workshop
A financial aid representative from the University of New Haven will provide valuable information regarding the process of filing the FAFSA and other financial resources at a workshop at West Haven High School Dec. 8 at 6:30 p.m. FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It may be submitted beginning January 1, 2016. To receive priority consideration for state or college aid for college, you must submit your form by February 15, 2016. Apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Bailey student art chosen for Mayor's Christmas cards

The artwork of three Bailey Middle School students will be featured on Mayor Edward M. O'Brien's 2015 Christmas cards, following the annual art contest at the middle school. The winners are:

--eighth-grader Winnie Jiang from Mrs. Flynn's art class with an outdoor scene of City Hall
--seventh-grader Alyna Nguyen from Mrs. Shea's art class with a decorated mantel and snow globe of City Hall
--eighth-grader Jalynda Arroyo from Mrs. Shea's art class with a festive reindeer

They also helped Mayor O'Brien light the city's Christmas tree on the Green Nov. 28 during the annual tree-lighting ceremony.
