WHHS holds Decision Day with 6 schools
decision day
Nearly 50 West Haven High School seniors were accepted Tuesday to one or more colleges at the first WHHS School Counseling Decision Day. They received on-the-spot admissions decisions at the special event, which was held at the Savin Rock Conference Center and included admissions representatives from six schools: the University of New Haven, the University of Bridgeport, Southern Connecticut State University, Western Connecticut State University, Central Connecticut State University, and Albertus Magnus College. Though WHHS has had on-site decision days for individual schools each fall, this was the first time School Counseling held one decision day for multiple schools. Parents also had a chance to attend and celebrate with their student. You might have seen the event featured on TV--click here for a news piece by WFSB on Decision Day.

Seniors gain acceptances at HBCU Fair

WHHS School Counseling coordinated a trip to the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Fair in New York this month. Nearly 60 students, 26 of them seniors, attended. Some of the schools that offered acceptance to WHHS seniors were South Carolina State University, Stillman College, Benedict College, Claflin University, Tuskegee University, Lincoln University Pennsylvania, Virginia State University, Bennett College, Bethune-Cookman University, Johnson C. Smith University, Shaw University, Norfolk State University, West Virginia State University, Talladega College, University of Virgin Islands and Winston-Salem State University. Accommodations were also made for students who could not afford the $15 sign-up fee and for clothing (blazers, dress pants, blouses, cardigans, sweaters, and shoes). The team effort proved to be a great success, with WHHS attendance more than double last year's number.
