Colleen Bradley, Grade 8 at Bailey Middle School, won the West Haven Citywide Spelling Bee and will represent West Haven at the New Haven Register Spelling Bee on March 20, where she will receive a $50 savings bond. The winner of that competition will compete in the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee.

The four contestants had previously won the grade level competitions held at their schools. The other participants were Christopher Bradley, Grade 5, from May V. Carrigan Intermediate School; Hannah Allan, Grade 6, from May V. Carrigan Intermediate School; and Paige Sheriden, Grade 7, from Harry M. Bailey Middle School. Each contestant received a Barnes and Noble gift certificate from the West Haven PTA Council.
