A Guide to Eating and Drinking for Sports

Few important points to remember:
  • Need to eat and drink enough!
  • Dieting is NOT a part of being an athlete, you need a good lunch!
  • Athletic teens need all their calories: Gives you power&strength
  • WATER is very important!!!!!!
  • When you perspire heavily during exercise you lose large amounts of fluids, which can cause you to become overheated and dehydrated!
  • Heat Exhaustion can be very hazardous if you do not stay hydrated!!
The best way to keep hydrated is with water!
  • Drink before, during and after exercise (or game or practice)
  • 1 to 2 hrs before exercise drink 10-12 ounces of cold water
  • 10 to 15 minutes before exercise drink 10 ounces of cold water
  • While exercising: 3-4 ounces of cold water every 15 mins
  • After exercising 2 cups of cold water
Main thing to remember about staying hydrated is Drink regardless of whether you feel thirsty.
  • Thirst is a sign that your body has needed fluids for awhile!
  • Best thirst quencher is water!!! It is the simplest thing for you to absorb, easy to find and it’s free!
