WEST HAVEN, Oct. 26, 2015 —The West Haven High School Fall Festival was cancelled earlier this month for stormy weather, but it’s back this weekend and has nearly doubled in size.

The Fall Festival and Blue Devil Car Show are set for Saturday on the WHHS campus and will now be joined by the annual Trick or Trunk Halloween event and two Children’s Theatre performances. There will also be school tours for prospective students in the morning and an open skate at Edward L. Bennett Ice Rink in the afternoon.

“There really will be something for kids and adults of all ages at our Fall Extravaganza on Saturday,” WHHS Principal Pam Gardner said. “Having to postpone the event from earlier this month ended up working to our advantage because now we can showcase so much more that West Haven High School has to offer. It’s giving families a lot of different options for kids’ activities, food and entertainment.”

Fall Festival admission is free, and the event is open to the entire community. Trick or Trunk, the open skate, and most Fall Festival activities are also free, although there will be food, Westie gear and other items for sale, and some activities may ask for a small donation. The Children’s Theatre plays are free for kids 12 and under, and everyone else is $5 each. The fee to enter a car into the car show is $10.

The day starts with breakfast and a school tour from 8-9 a.m. for prospective students and their parents, with additional tours scheduled for 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Academic departments will also have displays in the school’s main lobby from 9:30-11:30 a.m.

The inaugural Blue Devil Car Show begins at 9 a.m. with registration, while judging begins at 10:30 a.m. People’s Choice votes are due by 11 a.m., and awards will be announced at noon.

Fall Festival festivities, lasting from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., include an obstacle course, a DJ, food trucks, crafts, vendors, raffles, games, face-painting, balloon animals, and entertainment from groups like the WHHS WestSteppers, band, cheerleaders, and dance team, and Lil Miss Westie contestants. There will also be a car wash from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Meanwhile, Trick or Trunk will go from 9:30-12:30 p.m., and this year’s Children’s Theatre show—“How to Build a Fairytale (You’re Doing it all Wrong)”—will be performed at 10 and 11:30 a.m. in the Little Theater. Youngsters can meet the cast and crew at an autograph session at 12:15 p.m.

The Bennett Rink open skate will be held from 2:15-3:15 p.m. with the WHHS hockey team. Visitors are encouraged to bring a donation for WHEAT to the open skate.
